Working with Shapes
Shapes are primarily used in three distinct ways:
1. navigation – a shape acts as a button that links to different pages in your website
2. framing – a shape serves as a container to important pieces of content such as text or imagery
3. visual effect – a shape is used either to diversify or beautify the aesthetics of a webpage
In each case, the use of a shape is meant to draw attention either to the shape itself, or to the content contained within or around the shape.

In general, shapes have their own special usage and meaning. For example, chat bubbles are a graphic convention most commonly used to represent speech or thoughts. For circles, because there is no beginning nor end to a circle, it often suggests a comprehensive quality or fullness and is commonly used to bring out a sense of comfort, harmony and perfection. Squares and rectangles represent stability. Squares and rectangles are familiar and reliable, and they are the most common geometric pattern.
